Innovative Learning Center

The ILC offers to participants in Wheeler's residential programs the opportunity to pick up their education where they left off, and to pick up some computer skills at the same time. There have been some who came to the ILC without ever having learned to read. Others only need to brush up on grammar.

In any case, all of the instruction in the ILC comes through a highly specialized computer programs. There is a staff person in the ILC, but his title is "facilitator," not teacher. As the student learns even remedial material, he is also gaining computer literacy.

The typical student will lack a high school diploma, and so the larger focus of the ILC is preparation for the GED exam. But ultimately, the purpose of this ministry is to ready the participant to successfully reenter the community.
